Memory, resistance and religious freedom
The history of Candomblé includes cultural continuity, confrontation of discrimination and recognition of its territories.

Memory and resistance
Candomblé was formed in Brazil from the presence of enslaved Africans and their descendants, in relations of resistance, memory and re-creation. It has no single founding date nor a founder common to all houses.
Heritage and community
Heritage recognition of terreiros takes into account historical, cultural, environmental and community dimensions. It is not a certification of one tradition's superiority over another.
Respect today
Religious freedom demands respect for people and communities. The portal does not reproduce racist stereotypes nor presents anyone's beliefs as a reason for inferiority.
